About this Event
Join us for a rare, intimate dialogue with two pioneers of the Hare Krishna movement in the West, followed by Sacred Vedic Arts' weekly vegetarian and vegan sanctified prasadam feast.
In 1966, a young art student heard the Hare Krishna mantra being chanted in New York's Tompkins Square Park, and met His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, founder of ISKCON (the International Society for Krishna Consciousness). She became one of his very first disciples, and began painting under his guidance in service to Krishna.
Today, Her Grace Srimati Syamarani (Jadurani) Dasi has served for 60 decades in the movement. Her devotional paintings of Krishna and the spiritual world have illustrated millions of copies of books distributed worldwide.
Dr. Graham Schweig (Garuda das ACSBP), meanwhile, took Prabhupada's mission into academia. He holds a doctorate in comparative religion from Harvard University and is Professor of Religion at Christopher Newport University.
He translated Bhagavad Gītā: The Beloved Lord's Secret Love Song (HarperOne) and has lectured at the Smithsonian Institution for over a decade. He is recognized as one of the world's leading scholars of the Bhagavad Gita and Bhakti-yoga.
Together, these two spiritual teachers reflect on what it has meant to serve Krishna consciousness, and their spiritual master, through sacred art and scholarship. They will share personal memories of serving Srila Prabhupada, and the lessons that still guide their lives today.
This event is for longtime devotees, yoga practitioners, art lovers, spiritual seekers, or anyone simply curious about the Hare Krishna/Gaudiya Vaisnava tradition!
All are warmly welcome at this free event!
