The Crisis Facing Arizona Youth

Arizona’s young people are facing a hidden epidemic of violence. Recent data shows that 1 in 3 students have witnessed physical assault, and over 50% of high schoolers report experiencing abuse in their dating relationships. From online harassment to physical trauma at home, these experiences are often suffered in silence; only 1 in 10 youth victims ever reach out for help due to fear, shame, or a lack of trust in traditional systems.

A System Stretched Too Thin

When youth do want help, they often find the doors closed. Arizona has one of the worst student-to-counselor ratios in the country (645:1), leaving professional support out of reach for many.

Most victims say they would rather talk to a friend or a trusted adult they already know, yet these “natural helpers” often feel unprepared to handle such heavy conversations.

This gap in support leaves our most vulnerable youth, especially those with disabilities or childhood trauma isolated and without a safety plan.

Our Response: L.E.V.E.L.™ Training

We are bridging this gap by turning trusted adults into proactive first responders.

Thanks to a grant from the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission, BLOOM365 is offering the L.E.V.E.L.™ training at no cost to school staff, SROs, and BLOOM365 MOU partner agencies in Arizona.

This trauma-informed training teaches you the L.E.V.E.L.™. (Listen, Empathize, Validate, Encourage, and Link) response protocol.

You will gain the tangible tools needed to:

  • recognize the “red flags” of interpersonal violence
  • spot the signs of grooming
  • offer practical support to young people
  • become a better listener and trusted adult
  • remove barriers that prevent help seeking
  • respond to disclosures of victimization appropriately
  • connect young people to helpful resources
  • respond without judgment, advice, and opinion
  • understand the duty to report
