Come and join us for the first Pietre Vive guided tours this season!Visit the recently restored Jesuits Church and Oratories in Valletta with Pietre Vive.
The Society of Jesus arrived in Malta in 1592, at the height of the Catholic reform, to found the Collegium Melitense, the college from which the University of Malta would later grow. Under the Jesuit architect Giuseppe Valeriano, the Jesuits transformed the block into a monumental unified complex. The gunpowder explosion of 1634 gravely damaged the building, and from 1637 Francesco Buonamici clothed its Mannerist skeleton in Baroque dress, the cupola bearing the date 1659 recently found inscribed in its drum.
These guided visits will help you reconnect with the space, with a special focus on the space and its art, and its spiritual significance. Come and explore these wonderful Baroque spaces beyond their aesthetic or historical value.
These visits are free and you can drop by any time. These are roaming tours and visitors can join in at any point.
