Get ready for a night of adventure on the high seas with Norman's first (that we know of) official* Pickle Night celebration!

What is Pickle Night?: Pickle Night is the commemoration of HMS Pickle and her gallant crew, who were the first to bring news of the English victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

What??: Listen, we know this is obscure. Just stick with us for a minute.

Why is this a holiday?: While Trafalgar Day, the commemoration of the battle itself, is generally full of pomp and circumstance and fancy balls for officers and gentlemen, Pickle Night was the common sailor's chance to celebrate. And we love any excuse for a party.

What should I expect if I do show up for this?: Dinner will be served in the finest historic fashion, using recipes from Tasting History on YouTube, including some genuine hardtack and also lots of things that actually taste good. Drinks will be available at the bar, and a couple free shot of rum will be provided by the hosts for all of us to toast to the Admiral. We'll have fantastic decor and live entertainment, including a dramatic reading of the saga of HMS Pickle and her noble captain, John Richards Lapenotiere. Come in costume or as you are, and be ready to party!

Seriously though, why are you having this event in famously landlocked, and even more famously not British, Norman Oklahoma?: It's a long story that I would be happy to tell you if you show up, but the cliff notes version is that it involves the movie Master and Commander, the COVID-19 pandemic, Craigslist, an honest to God shipwreck in Lake Thunderbird, peach snachpps, an incredibly large painting, and lots of beer. We like boats, you like boats, this is a boat holiday, enough said.

Fine, you've convinced me. What are the details?: Pickle Night will be celebrated on the back patio of the Bluebonnet Bar. Show up whenever but we'll bring the food out and drink our toasts at 7 PM and the story will start at 7:30.

I'm an unusually considerate person and/or I know you in real life and want to help enable your continuing weirdness, what should I bring to the party?: More food never hurts, historical or otherwise, especially because I have no idea who all will be showing up. Please don't bring any outside drinks. And wear a costume, I'll be dressed up and I'd hate to be the only one!
