About this Event
The program will feature a talk and book presentation by Leide Porcu, alongside a special presentation of photographs from Marco Anelli's ongoing project First American Portrait.
Together, these works offer complementary perspectives on migration and belonging: one through the emotional and psychological experience of living between cultures, the other through the faces of people at a defining moment in their lives as Americans.
About the program:
Leide Porcu: Neither Here Nor There
Leide Porcu, PhD, LP, is a New York-based psychotherapist and psychoanalyst with a background in anthropology. Drawing on more than 30 years of clinical practice, anthropological research, and cross-cultural experience, she explores the emotional complexities of living between cultures.
Her 2026 book, Neither Here Nor There: A Guide for Immigrants and the Therapists Who Walk with Them, examines the psychological experience of migration, including cultural disorientation, migratory grief, language, identity, family expectations, and the search for belonging.
Marco Anelli: First American Portrait
Marco Anelli is an Italian-born photographer based in New York City. His practice encompasses portraiture, architecture, music, and long-term documentary projects, often developed through sustained engagement with his subjects.
Although Anelli will not be present for this event, he has generously agreed to allow selected photographs from First American Portrait, an ongoing photographic project documenting immigrants immediately after their Oath of Allegiance ceremony, capturing the moment they become American citizens.
