About this Event
Bring a wish. Queen Victoria is listening.
She never came to Australia. She never came to Melbourne. But her face did. Her name did. And now she stands in this city, in stone, waiting for something we don’t yet know how to ask for.
In Thai culture, “Phra Mae” is a respectful term for a sacred mother or female deity. In this contemporary performance, Thai artist Chatchai Sukanan reimagines Queen Victoria as Phra Mae Victoria—a figure who receives our wishes, hopes, fears and prayers.
Moving through personal stories, collective voices and rituals created inside the gallery, the performance follows what happens when we are far from home and still need somewhere—or someone—to leave our questions with.
Come with a wish, a question, or simply your curiosity. Audience participation is welcomed but never compulsory.
Performed in Thai and English.
Free entry. Bookings recommended.
Optional offerings help support the artists and this independent performance.
