Course Description
This 3 hour workshop is a hands-on introduction to the principles of photography, perfect for anyone who’s ready to get off Auto and take control of their camera. Expect to spend most of the session shooting and experimenting around Chinatown, and Kensington Market guided by practical demos and simple visual examples.
We’ll break down the three pillars of exposure ; aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Exploring how they work together to shape your images.
You’ll Learn:
The exposure triangle: aperture, shutter speed, ISO.
How to control depth of field and motion blur.
How to read your light meter and exposure indicators.
Tips for handheld shooting and camera confidence.
To have more fun with you camera!

Introduction + Camera Setup (30 min)
Manual mode overview
What aperture, shutter, and ISO really do
Hands-On Practice (1.5 hr)
Guided exercises adjusting each setting in isolation
Shooting in changing light conditions
How to balance all three settings in real time
Review + Q&A (1 hr)
Group discussion of results
How to practice at home
Quick intro to file handling and next steps (editing, Photo 201, etc.)
What to Bring:
Any DSLR, mirrorless, or film camera with manual controls
Fully charged battery + empty memory card / film roll
Comfortable shoes for shooting outdoors
