Meeting Room 108. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, The Free Library of Philadelphia, The Literary Cafe Books & Events, and Literary Events & Projects will present an artistic banquet that showcases some of the creative talents in the Hispanic community. The 4-part series will present members from the art, music, cuisine and dance communities who are an integral part of the rich tapestry of Philadelphia's cultural landscape.
Three Dancers from the Philadelphia Ballet will share their journey of becoming performers in one the world's most noted Ballet company.
Juan Montobbio Maestre, Corps de Ballet.
Juan Montobbio Maestre began his ballet training at a local school in Barcelona before attending the Corella Academy from 2014-2021 under the direction of Carmen Corella, a former dancer at Philadelphia Ballet, and Dayron Vera. In 2018, Juan received a scholarship for the Summer Intensive at the Vagánova Ballet Academy and in 2019 received a scholarship for the Summer Intensive at the Dutch National Ballet Academy. Juan joined Philadelphia Ballet II for our 2021/2022 Season and Philadelphia Ballet as an Apprentice for the 2022/2023 Season.
Scarlett Güémez, Corps de Ballet, The Harry and Karen Lavallen Dancer.
Scarlett Güémez began training at the Escuela Superior de Musica y Danza de Monterrey in 2005 continuing there until 2012. During this time she attended Summer Intensives at American Ballet Theatre (2008) and Miami City Ballet (2011). She then trained at the Escuela Nacional de Artes in Habana, Cuba from 2012-2014. Scarlett joined the Compania Nacional de Danza de Mexico in 2014 and was promoted to the rank of Coryphee in 2020. She joined Philadelphia Ballet for our 2022/2023 Season.
Victoria Lorenzo, Apprentice.
Victoria Lorenzo began her dance training at the age of nine in her hometown of Santander, Spain. At sixteen, she was awarded the Ángel Corella scholarship to continue her professional training at Corella Barcelona under the guidance of Carmen Corella and Dayron Vera. Throughout Victoria’s journey, her sister has always been by her side–she is currently studying at Corella Barcelona, continuing her own professional dance education. During Victoria’s training, she has performed Odette/Odile in Swan Lake as well as Gamzatti in La Bayadère. Recently, she had the opportunity to dance in a professional gala in Italy alongside director Dayron Vera.
