About this Event
Just days after the High Court heard one of the most significant constitutional cases in modern Australian history, join us for a rare private briefing about thes issues and constitutional cases generally.
On 8–9 September the High Court sat on WAP v Commonwealth — the case that asks a fundamental question: Can a government ban a political party? The decision is expected in the coming weeks and months.
The implications for free political communication, association, and the limits of Commonwealth power could not be higher.
Peter King, lead counsel for the plaintiffs and one of Australia’s foremost constitutional barristers, will give an insider’s account of the arguments and issues in the case and in other recent constitutional cases which matter for the future of Australian democracy.
The evening includes:
- Address by Peter King
- Live Q&A
- Informal drinks and dinner afterwards for those who wish to stay.
Ticket sales cover venue hire and security. Any residual goes to the bar.
For security reasons, the exact Sydney CBD location will be emailed to ticket holders on the day of the event.
This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to hear directly from the counsel who stood before the High Court in a case that could redefine the boundaries of political freedom in Australia.
