About this Event
What happens when trust in scientific institutions changes? How do those ideas gain traction and what happens when they arrive at the statehouse? Dr. Peter Hotez explores what is fueling the growing skepticism of science in his book, Science Under Siege. Dr. Hotez will be joined by Rekha Lakshmanan with The Immunization Partnership to discuss how this distrust is showing up in state legislatures and what this means for Texas policies next year.
Peter J. Hotez is dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine and professor of pediatrics and molecular virology and microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine, where he is also the codirector of the Texas Children's Center for Vaccine Development. He is an elected member of the US National Academy of Medicine and, in 2022, was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on the COVID-19 vaccine. He lives in Houston, Texas.
