GUITARIST & VOCALIST EXTRAORDINAIRE PETER CALO AGAIN BRINGS HIS HIGHLY-PRAISED SINGER/SONGWRITER SHOW TO DON’T TELL MAMA, NOVEMBER 10 AT 7PM
In the world of cabaret entertainment, especially in New York City, performers, music directors, and fellow musicians have long considered Peter Calo as one of the best guitarists on the scene. His playing has been hailed as “masterful” by the Boston Globe, and Time Out London has praised him as “one of the most engaging performers in the biz.” During his long, successful career, Calo has written songs with Carly Simon and Jimmy Webb, and performed or recorded with Simon and Webb as well as iconic singer/songwriters as diverse as Willie Nelson, Hall & Oates, Linda Eder, Andrea Bocelli, Kris Kristofferson, Liz Callaway, and Marilyn Maye. In fact, Carly Simon has said of Peter Calo: “Peter is the musician you meet early in your career and all of a sudden you’re 70 years old and you’re lucky enough to still be playing and writing with him.”
But Peter Calo is also an accomplished singer/songwriter, with a few highly-praised solo albums to his credit, including the 1998 release “Wired to the Moon” and the 2016 disc “Time Machine.” Many songs from those albums were on delightful display in two early 2026 shows at Pangea NYC. Included in the set was the song “Elephants Never Forget,” which made him a “Best Male Artist” finalist in the 2023 International Acoustic Music Awards.
Now, on November 10 at 7 pm, (with Paul Adamy on bass and Gary Schreiner on Harmonica, Accordion and Piano). Calo is again bringing his critically-acclaimed IN CONCERT show to the Brick Room at Don’t Tell Mama (343 W 46th St, between 8th & 9th Ave). In her review of Calo’s show for TheaterPizzazz.com, Alix Cohen wrote: “[Whether it’s] strumming or plucking or singing comfortably deep and slightly rough, Peter Calo reveals prodigious versatility . . . Folk, blues, rock, and classical inspiration fold into the evening, each as if it were Calo’s primary style . . .” In his review for Cabaret Scenes Magazine, Bart Greenberg raved: “Peter Calo is an expert at playing the guitar and singing with great feeling, especially but not exclusively his own material. But what makes him even more appealing as a performer is his warmth and humor. Even if you’ve never seen him in the spotlight previously, he comes across like an old friend . . . Such intimacy is what the cabaret art form is all about.”
For reservations to Peter Calo’s show, go to www.shows.donttellmamanyc.com. Cover: $20/MAC Members: $15. Minimum is $20 per person (must include two drinks). House opens at 6:15 pm for food and beverage service.
