Panel discussion & Q&A about urban pesticide use and how councils can phase out harmful chemicals
About this Event

Please only sign up via this link if you are a councillor.

Join us for a discussion of pesticide use in urban spaces - the threats, alternatives and opportunities for change. During this session you will hear the latest science about UK Youth for Nature’s Your Wild Streets campaigns and from Nick Mole, Policy lead at Pesticide Action Network UK. We will discuss the challenges of going pesticide free and how young people and councillors can work together to create a safer, greener future.

Glyphosate is the most commonly used herbicide in the world with councils across the UK routinely using it on streets, parks and playgrounds. Classed by the World Health Organisation as a probable carcinogen, a growing body of evidence is revealing the threat this practice poses to people, pets and wildlife.

Working alongside organisations like PAN, several councils have committed to reducing or phasing out the use of glyphosate-based herbicides. During this session we will learn how that process works, how other councils can join them and how young people can engage with their councils to support them on their pesticide-free journey.
