About this Event
Perth Barbershop Singers have been singing together in Barbershop Style for fully 30 years. They acknowledge that this singing has been an extreme and eccentric response to the male menopause – a condition which shows no sign of easing with the passing years.
What characterises the Barbershop style is totally unaccompanied singing, with the unique feature of tenors who sing at a higher pitch than the tune.. The style originated in the Southern states of the USA, in the early years of the 20th century, when it was impossible for men with black skins to congregate for any form of entertainment – except occasionally in the barber’s shop -where they began to sing together.
At Voicefest in Brechin Cathedral they’ll be singing some big anthems, perhaps Highland Cathedral or You’ll Never Walk Alone – mixed with something lighter, but always suitable for singing along with.
