On Tuesday 6 October at 17:00, artist Al Masson will perform the work ‘Butterflies’ as part of his residency at HEIRLOOM.The performance engages with and reactivates Masson’s installation ‘Butterflies’ from 2000. The work consists of hundreds of colourful drawings on the inside of used envelopes, that were originally made in a participatory performance at Traneudstillingen at Gentofte Library.
"I never counted how many of these envelopes I did. Each of them was an automatic free drawings never the same, each I opened with a ritual. Like opening a body in a way, sometimes I smelled the inside before. I remember the gesture of opening the letter of a lover. We do not smell emails we get these days...I have kept some letters of a grand mother or others and I feel like there is still the scent of that person. Sometimes while drawing I imagined that it was like the remembrance of someone who died someone flying away...thousand of butterflies...in a huge patchwork. On a wall they seem to be each individual entity moving their wings."
