🌿🛶 **PROJECT RIVER SOAR: THE PENNYWORT MARCH CONTINUES!** 🛶🌿📢 **NEXT STOP: FREEMAN’S MEADOW LOCK!**
We’re back at it again! 💪💚
Our march down the River Soar continues, and we’re getting ever closer to Freeman’s Meadow Lock! After Nick and Julie tackled a MASSIVE haul of pennywort in the pond just before the lock, it’s time to get the team back together and keep the momentum going.
**Can we clear another stretch of the Soar? You bet we can!** 🙌
📅 **Wednesday 21st October**
⏰ **From 4pm onwards**
📍 **Meeting point: Leicester Rowing Club**
We’ll set off from Leicester Rowing Club and continue working our way towards Freeman’s Meadow Lock, removing as much of this invasive floating pennywort as we can along the way.
🌱 **Why does it matter?**
Floating pennywort can grow at an astonishing rate, forming dense mats that block waterways, crowd out native plants and reduce oxygen levels as the vegetation dies back and decomposes. By removing it, we’re helping to protect our local waterways and the wildlife that depends on them.
💚 **EVERY VOLUNTEER MAKES A DIFFERENCE!**
Whether you're a seasoned pennywort picker or completely new to Project River Soar, we'd love to see you.
You don't need to be an expert conservationist — just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in! Every bag removed is a little win for our river.
🛶 **Paddlers and land-based volunteers are welcome!**
Come along, meet some lovely people, learn a little about our local wildlife and help us tackle this invasive plant. There's always plenty to see along the way, and we can usually find time for a bit of wildlife spotting too!
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported our pennywort picks so far. The progress we've made this season is down to people giving up their time and working together. **Many hands really do make light work!** ❤️
📣 **Fancy joining us? Come and be part of the team!**
Let's keep that pennywort moving and reclaim another stretch of the River Soar, one pick at a time! 🌿💪
