About this Event
Penny Publications: Victorian Illustration & Storytelling Workshop
Sunday 25 October | 2pm–4pm
101 Donegall Street, Belfast
Step inside our Victorian Story House and discover the characters, objects and secrets hiding within.
At the centre of this creative workshop is our Victorian-inspired doll’s house, filled with curious objects and details from another time. Choose a room, discover an object or meet one of its unusual inhabitants, then use what you find as the starting point for your own story.
Inspired by the illustrated penny publications and sensational tales popular during the Victorian era, we’ll explore how stories were shared before creating our own miniature publications using creative writing, drawing, illustration and collage.
Your tale could be spooky, mysterious, funny or completely unexpected – from a strange occurrence in Victorian Belfast to the secret life of a doll or the story behind a mysterious object.
No writing or illustration experience is needed. This is a relaxed, playful workshop where you can draw, write, collage or combine all three.
At the end of the workshop, our creations will come together around the doll’s house to form a collective Victorian Story House, filled with new tales inspired by Belfast’s past.
