Closed-door simulation exploring how insurers manage reputation, AI misinformation and decisions during early, uncertain crisis stages.
About this Event

In the earliest phase of a major loss or high-profile incident, insurers may be pulled into public, client, or stakeholder conversations before attribution, intent, or responsibility are confirmed. Unlike conventional loss events, these situations are shaped as much by narrative, misinformation, AI-generated content, including hallucinated outputs presented as credible analysis, and symbolic association as by verifiable facts.

Pending Attribution is a closed-door, half-day immersive simulation that examines how insurers navigate this early, uncertain phase. Participants from across the insurance market engage with a realistic but hypothetical scenario involving intentional harm, symbolic targets, and rapid online amplification–a context in which insurers may be visible, referenced, or consulted despite limited clarity and constrained authority–including the emergence of AI-generated summaries, risk assessments, or advisory outputs that may be partially or wholly inaccurate, yet influential. In this context, insurers may be visible, referenced, or consulted despite limited clarity and constrained authority.

The exercise runs live and interactively. Working in small, cross-company groups, participants respond in real time to evolving information, media reporting, AI-assisted analysis tools, and stakeholder pressure delivered through a secure digital coordination platform. Decisions about whether to engage, defer, coordinate, or remain silent, shape how the situation unfolds, reflecting the pace and ambiguity of real-world events.

The simulation is designed to surface:

  • how narrative and reputational risk can emerge before attribution is settled;
  • how strategic communications considerations arise under uncertainty;
  • how reliance on AI-generated outputs, including hallucinated or unverified content, can influence decision-making under pressure;
  • how the insurance sector assess, challenges, or validates AI-assisted insights in fast-moving, ambiguous situations.

This is not a claims, compliance, or media-training exercise. It focuses on a specific and under-examined problem: how the insurance sector operates in the grey zone between incident and attribution, when questions arrive before answers, and certainty comes last.
