The Island Peace Committee will host members of Nova Scotia Voice of Women for Peace in a “Peace Talk” on Wednesday, October 28th. At 6pm we will start with refreshments in the Rotary Room at the Charlottetown Library Learning Centre at 97 Queen Street. The NSVOW and the Island Peace Committee hope to not only find the ‘doves’ but put wind under the wings of peace through conversation and collaboration.
NSVOW is an organizer of Peace Walks, as well as art installations promoting peace. The 2025 Peace Walk commemorated the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings walking 80 km for 80 years. Traveling on the walk was an inspirational letter to the Peace Walkers from Setsuko Thurlow, a survivor of Hiroshima. Setsuko’s story weaves through the Peace Walk, with reflections from a school principal and a puzzle was created by youth group Black Girl Magic in Truro.
We will screen the film “Walking with Setsuko” by documentary filmmaker and NSVOW member, Ann Verrall who brings a message of hope and a call to action. Island Peace Committee encourages Islanders to join in this discussion on how we can work for peace on PEI and around the globe.
