About this Event
PD Day Camp (CBE & CCSD) - October 19th
At Calgary Humane Society Day Camps, children connect with animals through hands-on learning, exciting activities, creative crafts, and memorable animal encounters. Guided by our enthusiastic instructors and friendly animal visitors, campers explore the fascinating world of animals while developing compassion, empathy, respect, and the skills needed to provide lifelong care for companion animals.
Each camp day is thoughtfully designed to be age- and developmentally appropriate, ensuring every child can learn, participate, and succeed. Campers discover animal characteristics, behavior, and responsible pet care through engaging, interactive experiences, including two or more animal interactions throughout the day. For children attending multiple PD Day Camps, activities vary for each session, offering fresh opportunities to learn, create, explore, and make lasting memories.

May my child attend if they have allergies?
If your child's allergies are minor, well-managed with Medic*tion, and you have consulted your child's physician, we encourage you to register. Campers spend only limited time in the shelter's animal areas and enjoy outdoor activities when weather permits. Please note that we are NOT a peanut-free facility. Please consult with our Humane Education team for more info about peanuts and food allergies.
What is the best way to sign up for camp?
Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and must be completed online through Eventbrite. Your registration and payment must BOTH be completed before your child's camp registration is considered confirmed. If you are unable to complete your registration for any reason, please call or email us for assistance.
We cannot hold your child’s space in a camp unless they are fully registered. If camp registration is full, you may add your name to the waitlist, and you will be contacted by e-mail if a spot on the waitlist becomes available.
Once your registration is processed, confirmation of enrollment will be e-mailed. Release forms, directions, and other pertinent information are included in the email. Signed release forms must be completed and received on the morning of camp. Children may not attend camp without completed forms.

If your child has a medical condition that requires them to eat or drink at specific times, please notify camp staff prior to their camp day. The Calgary Humane Society is NOT a peanut-free facility. However, we do request that parents avoid packing peanut products for the safety of all of our campers.
Will my child spend most of the day working directly with animals?
Everything we do at camp is aimed at teaching children about animal care, handling, and welfare. We strive to give our campers an opportunity to interact with several animals each day. However, as an open-admissions animal shelter, we care for all animals in need, including those that may be sick, injured, fearful, or experiencing behavioral challenges. As a result, the types and availability of animals for interactions may vary depending on the animals in our care at the time of camp. Our ability to offer animal interactions is determined by which animals are suitable and comfortable participating. Above all, our top priorities are ensuring a safe experience for campers and protecting our resident animals from unnecessary stress. Some animals may find large groups overwhelming, and we help children learn to recognize and respect each animal's individual comfort level. When a gentle bunny, or a kid-loving dog, or playful bunch of kittens comes through the shelter, the camp kids are often given the opportunity to interact with them.
Please note: Activities are age specific. Animal interaction is dependent upon animal health on a day-to-day basis. We cannot guarantee specified types or amount of animal visits. We also do not guarantee any petting but will aim to choose animal visitors who are open to pets.
