About this Event
The Payback Exchange is coming to Lichfield
Our fourth Payback Exchange is at the Garrick’s brand new Creative Hub on Wade Street. It’s a space built for community and creativity, so it felt like the right home for this one.
What to expect
- Every charity, care provider, school and community organisation gets one minute to share what help they need right now
- Businesses get a minute too, to say how you’d like to support local organisations (and if you’re not sure yet, that’s fine, coming along to find out is the point)
- Time afterwards to talk, swap details and follow up on anything that caught your ear
This isn’t a room for selling to charities. The businesses come to give, whether that’s time, skills, expertise or money.
A bonus for this one: Peter the Speaker
Saying what you need clearly in sixty seconds isn’t easy for anyone, so this time we’ve got some help. Peter the Speaker, Professional Speaker of the Year 2026, is joining us. Peter won investment on BBC’s Dragons’ Den in 2018, and the BBC described him as the man who floored the Dragons.
Peter will show everyone:
- How to walk into a room full of strangers and start a conversation, with a live icebreaker to put it into practice
- A simple four-step structure for a one-minute pitch
- How to write your pitch there and then, before you deliver it to the room
- What to do afterwards so the connections you make actually go somewhere
Don’t panic. You don’t need to prepare anything. You’ll write your minute on the morning with Peter’s help, and reading from your notes is absolutely fine.
Want a taste before the day? Search “Floor the Dragons” on YouTube to watch Peter take on the Dragons. Once you’ve seen him in action, it’s easy to understand why so many people who’ve been in the room with him end up leaving Peter a recommendation.
Does it work? Yes.
At Rugeley, Zephi met the founder of For A Child’s Heart and went on to build them a brand new website.
That didn’t start with a cheque. It started with a conversation.
Our last event at Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce had 37 people in the room. Let’s make Lichfield bigger.
Who should come
- Charities, care providers, schools and community groups looking for support
- Local businesses wanting to do more for their community, whether that’s charity of the year, volunteering, skills or donations
