About this Event
This in-person conference is for those interested in the history and dynamics of global economic integration and disintegration.
About the conference
Patterns of Global Economic Integration & Disintegration, 1850s to Present examines the varied forms that global economic connections have taken over time. It challenges familiar binaries such as “free market” versus “state intervention,” “free trade” versus “mercantilism,” and “financial liberalization” versus “regulation.” Through detailed archival research and a distinct historical framework, the conference aims to illuminate the heterogeneity of global economic linkages.
Contributions will map the forces that drive economic integration, examine why connections have repeatedly frayed or been disrupted, and move beyond common binary or linear narratives. The program will take place over two days: one day at Sciences Po Paris and the other at the University of Chicago Center in Paris. The conference will open and close with two keynote lectures, creating opportunities for professional exchange and networking.
