The Pathways series has developed as a space to explore artists' thinking and their choices in a friendly group setting. Seeing the display of their work, and joining the discussions can refresh your own ideas and understanding, whether you are also an artist, or simply interested in the communicative power of creativity.
Jane Pryor works within non-objective abstraction across painting and sculpture. Central to her work is colour and shape, and the emotional resonance that accompanies these two elements. She seeks to create a sense of expansion and lightness in the simplest terms. The notion of kairos time informs her process; the opportune moment that cuts through chronological time, to an infinite expansive silence. Jane works on different groups of paintings and sculptures over time; they may be centred round a colour, a line of poetry or a song title.
Polly Griffiths' creative practice explores embodiment and sensory experience as language within the graphic arts. Her material-led experiments in weaving and printmaking draw on the physicality of text — form, pattern, space, and sequence — and the interplay of textural qualities such as structure and flow, tension and rhythm. Weaving is a practice that crosses cultures and histories, a rich and living heritage. The power and mystery of embodied craft sits at the centre of Polly's ongoing research, which explores how sensory experience can invigorate and democratise design language.
