City in Colour Cooperative and Concordia University’s Acts of Listening Lab are pleased to invite you to the Montreal opening of the Pathway to Diversity National Art Exhibition, a project commemorating the 50th anniversary of Canada’s 1976 Immigration Act.

Pathway to Diversity – Life Stories, Art and Civic Engagement
The opening will feature a conversation with Luis C. Sotelo, Director of Concordia University’s Acts of Listening Lab (ALlab), Fiorella Pinillos, co-founder of City in Colour Cooperative, and participating artists Carolina Aguirre and Natalia Botero.
The speakers will reflect on the artworks presented at Espace Amalgame and the experiences and stories behind them. The exhibition features six immigrant artists whose work explores how migration, memory, identity, and belonging have shaped their lives, as well as how Canada’s 1976 Immigration Act has influenced the country’s social and cultural landscape.

This event is presented in partnership with Concordia University’s Acts of Listening Lab (ALlab) and is part of the Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling (COHDS) programming celebrating its 20th anniversary.
ALlab and City in Colour share a commitment to creating spaces for dialogue among artists, researchers, and communities about the role of art in engaging the public with immigration-related issues. City in Colour is a British Columbia-based cooperative that leads community-engaged projects with racialized, immigrant, and refugee communities, advocating for more inclusive and equitable urban spaces. ALlab is a research-creation facility that explores creative approaches to engaging audiences as listeners to real-life stories, using life stories and oral history as transformative tools.
The opening offers an opportunity to hear directly from the artists and collaborators involved in the exhibition and to reflect on how art and storytelling can create space for dialogue, connection, and a deeper understanding of migration and civic life.
