About this Event
This November, we’re taking a deep dive into one of Italy’s most fascinating wine regions with a very special premium tasting dedicated to Bussola Tommaso, one of the historic names of Valpolicella Classica. Based in Negrar, in the hills of Valpolicella, the Bussola family works with the classic grapes of the region — Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara — across vineyards ranging from 280 to 450 metres above sea level. Their wines reflect both the character of this unique landscape and a commitment to patient, traditional winemaking.
At the heart of our tasting will be two of our favourite Valpolicella wines: the Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore Ca’ del Laito and Amarone della Valpolicella Classico. We’ll explore the remarkable difference between these two expressions, including the Ripasso’s second fermentation on the skins of Amarone, followed by extended maturation in a combination of tonneaux, barriques and large oak barrels. The Amarone takes the process even further, with carefully selected grapes naturally dried for around four months before fermentation and a total of four years of ageing before bottling.
This is a tasting for anyone who loves rich, structured Italian reds and wants to explore what makes Valpolicella so special. Expect depth, elegance and plenty of stories from one of Veneto’s great wine-producing areas, as we taste our way through a selection of Bussola wines and discover the traditions, vineyards and painstaking cellar work behind them.
