An evening of luminous voices, powerful storytelling, and music that journeys from sorrow toward hope.Join Utah Chamber Artists and Artistic Director Barlow Bradford at the Cathedral of the Madeleine for Passion and Resurrection, the opening concert of the UCA Encore Series. Celebrating 35 years of musical traditions, this series revisits the repertoire and concert experiences that have shaped UCA while welcoming inspiring new works. This evening honors our tradition of performing major choral works in the cathedral’s extraordinary acoustic setting.
THE PROGRAM
Rebecca Dale — Salve Regina
A luminous setting of the ancient Marian prayer, with an exposed soprano line and shimmering, overlapping choral harmonies that seem to float through the space.
Karen P. Thomas — Panta Rhei
Taking its title from the Greek phrase “everything flows,” this dramatic work for soprano, choir, and strings invites listeners into a musical world of movement and transformation.
Ēriks Ešenvalds — Passion and Resurrection
A moving oratorio that weaves biblical and liturgical texts into a journey through suffering, compassion, and renewal, bringing ancient sacred traditions into vivid conversation with a contemporary musical voice.
FEATURED GUESTS: SOUND OF AGES
We are delighted to feature a male vocal quartet from Sound of Ages joining Utah Chamber Artists for this concert. Founded in 2016 by Kameron Kavanaugh, this Utah vocal ensemble brings early music and contemporary choral repertoire together through expressive musical storytelling.
Whether you are a longtime choral music lover, a young singer discovering the possibilities of the human voice, or simply looking for a meaningful evening of live music, we invite you to experience these works with us in one of Salt Lake City’s most beautiful spaces.
