About this Event
Book an appointment to bring your archaeological finds for identification and recording with the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
Depositing Finds
Our pre-bookable appointments are 15 minutes during which we can:
- Take in objects for identifying and recording
- Return objects that we have previously borrowed
- Provide information on recording with the Portable Antiquities Scheme
Objects are borrowed for 3 months, recorded onto the national PAS database at www.finds.org.uk, then returned with an identification.
Please label your finds with the findspot (National Grid Reference or What3Words) and date of discovery in advance.
Collecting Finds
These pre-bookable appointments are 5 minutes during which we can return finds previous deposited for recording only. We cannot take in or discuss new finds during these appointments.
PLEASE NOTE:
Each 15-minute appointment is for one person depositing finds only. If two or more people in your party wish to deposit finds you must book separate appointments.
If we take in an object for recording, we will provide you with a receipt which should be retained. Your finds will be ready for collection at the next event at the same location, usually the first Friday of the month, three months after depositing.
If you are collecting finds, you must bring either the receipt we gave you when we took them in, or official photo ID. We will not return finds without seeing one of these.
You must book an appointment to collect and deposit finds. We will not transport objects to Finds Day events without confirmation of the finders’ attendance.
