Thursday 23 April 2026
10.30am- 12.30pm at the Barnfield Theatre
Barnfield Road, EX1 1SN
What's the project?
We are researching women’s experiences in the 1970s around the time of the 1975 Sex Discrimination Act: the law that allowed women to open a bank account without a man’s signature.
We want to explore women’s relationship with money and how it’s relevant today.
What will the event involve?
Our team from Scratchworks Theatre will run a friendly and welcoming session.
We will host a discussion circle where anyone is welcome to share their memories from the 1970s and reflect on how the 1975 Act impacted their lives.
We are aware that talking about finances can be a taboo subject! Part of the project is about overcoming that taboo and encouraging more engagement with financial literacy.
Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided.
Sign up via Eventbrite link (spaces are limited)
If you have any questions about the session, please email us at [email protected]
We are also looking for people who are willing to take part in 1-to-1 interviews, so please contact us!
