Looking to connect with others passionate about Palliative and End of Life Care? This in-person event is your chance to learn about the latest developments in palliative and end of life care. Expect inspiring talks, debate and discussion, break out sessions, and great networking opportunities.

There is no charge for this event.

The changing Landscape of Palliative Care
Host: Consultant Dr Helen Lock

Info: Consultant Dr Helen Lock is an established consultant with a wealth of experience in Palliative Medicine across numerous settings including Hospice, community and acute services.ย  Helen is Lead Consultant for RDUH Eastern Services and also continues her role as a Consultant at Hospiscare. This is a compelling talk looking at Palliative care over the years, the increase in patient complexity and the changes this is bringing to palliative care across all settings.

Motor Neurone Disease and Non-invasive ventilation
Host: Charlotte Kirby- Home ventilation ACP

Info: Charlotte Kirby and her team play a crucial role in supporting our acute and community MND patients. They work collaboratively as part of an integrated team who are pivotal to supporting this cohort of patients. This talk will focus on Motor Neurone disease, specifically looking at non-invasive ventilation, how and why this is used and when to consider withdrawal of treatment.

Complex Seizure Management in End of life care
Host: Consultant Dr Francesca Mastaglio- North Devon Hospice

Info: Dr Francesca Mastaglio is an experienced Consultant in Palliative Medicine based in North Devon. Francesca provides vital support to our Hospice, Acute and Community teams across North Devon. This presentation will focus on complex seizure management, the use of benzodiazepines and anti-seizure medications to support patients across care settings.

Breakout Session A- โ€˜Palliative care for people with Advanced Liver Disease'

Info: Dr Amelia Stockley Consultant in Palliative Medicine with an interest in Advanced Liver Disease and Interstitial Lung Disease. Dr Stockley will give a comprehensive talk on Advanced Liver Disease looking at presentation, treatment and end of life care.

Session B- Complex Case discussion- From a generalist and specialist view

Info: Dr Hasib Choudhary-Consultant in Palliative Medicine and Dr Lynsey Webb- Deputy Medical Director and Consultant in Nephrology and Acute Medicine . This discussion will look at the management of palliative patients in the acute setting from both a generalist and a specialist perspective with a key focus on the collaborative working and their role/treatment of patients.

Session C-Hospice and community palliative care and End of life prescribing

Info: Dr Jenny Hayes, Dr Cate O'Neill and Dr Becky Baines-Consultants in Palliative Medicine- based at Hospiscare. This breakout session will focus on palliative care in the Hospice and Community setting, the challenges faced and how to achieve the best outcomes for patients and their families. This session will also look at prescribing at the end of life and optimising symptom management.

Session D- Bringing Hospital into the Home with the Virtual Ward Team

Info: Dr Jess Patten-Specialist in Acute Supportive Care, Acute Medicine and Mandy Hancock, Clinical Nurse Manager AHAH. This breakout session will focus on the evolving face of palliative medicine as we increasingly utilise the virtual ward to support patients to remain at home for end of life care. Dr Patten will discuss all aspects of the virtual ward and how this service may develop moving forward.
