About this Event
In partnership with the Kingdom Cafe, the Civic Design Center is building the biggest parklet in Nashville to celebrate reclaiming parking space for pedestrians and unveil the new parklet in front of The Kingdom Cafe.
We have been hosting PARK(ing) Day in Nashville for 14 years. New to PARK(ing) Day? PARK(ing) Day is a global, public, participatory art and design project which started in San Francisco in 2005. It is a day where people across the globe temporarily repurpose street parking spaces into tiny parks and places for art, play, and activism. Learn more about past interventions in Nashville.
In our 4th year of the Parklet Design Competition, we are not only bringing another permanent parklet to Nashville, but we are committed to celebrating the North Nashville community where the parklet is being built. Kimley-Horn and Cumberland River Compact are making possible for us to depave 6 parking spaces! However, it wouldn't be a parklet without R.C. Mathews Contractor, whose construction team is donating time and materials to bring this special activtion to the neighborhood.
During the Block Party, we will have hyperlocal retail vendors that represent North Nashville! There will also be live music! Please check back here for more information about vendors and activations.
PARKING INFORMATION
Because the block party is at the same time as the African Street Festival, we highly recommend taking a bicycle or public transit to Kingdom Cafe. The 29 route goes along Jefferson Street and stops right in front of Kingdom Cafe. It is a quick and easy ride from the Duff Transit Center!
If you need to drive, we recommend parking in the neighborhood to the north of Kingdom Cafe. The closest streets are Scovel and Beasley Streets, marked in the map below. However, these streets might be full from African Street Fest parking. There will be more street parking in the neighborhood further north.
