The St. James School is a tuition-free Episcopal school serving students in grades 4-8 in the Allegheny West neighborhood of Philadelphia. The school was founded fifteen years ago on the property of a formerly closed Episcopal church (The Church of St. James the Less) by a group of faithful Episcopalians who were concerned about the quality of education offered to young people in the economically struggling neighborhoods of Philadelphia. Since its opening, the school has become a model school, demonstrating how the power of education, related support services, and positive relationships can change the trajectory of a young person' life.
