Why trying to stay calm isn't working – and what needs to change first
Led by Joe Ogborn, parent coach
About this Event
Same frustrations. Same reactions. Same meltdowns - sometimes yours. Another day of wondering if it could be different.
You've read the books, tried the strategies, and listened to well-meaning advice from people who don't know your children. And you're still asking: is a steadier home possible? Not "when the kids are older"—but right now.
The answer, says Joe Ogborn of Strain Relief for Parents, is yes. But we might be going about it the wrong way.
Most parenting advice focuses on staying calm and regulated in the moment — connect before you correct, co-regulate, breathe. That matters, but it's fire fighting. And when you're feeling overwhelmed, it can feel impossible to stay steady because you're still running on empty.
There's a way out. In this session, we look upstream: at your family as a system, and how to strengthen your family culture and environment to start working for you rather than against you. When those shift, everything shifts — towards more capacity, more clarity, and more composure.
Who it's for
This will resonate if you are:
- Tired of the same old cycles playing out on repeat
- Navigating complex behaviour, neurodivergence, or adoption/fostering
- Someone who's tried the standard advice and it hasn't been enough
- Overwhelmed, stretched, reactive, or just getting through the day in survival mode more often than you'd like
- Someone who loves their children fiercely and still wonders if things can be different
Your host
Joe's approach isn't theoretical. He's an adoptive dad of two daughters, and one is neurodivergent with significant speech delay, developmental delay and additional needs. His coaching practice Strain Relief for Parents wasn't born from a textbook — it's forged in the same tears and tantrums (sometimes his) that many of you know well.
More capacity. More clarity. More composure. A steadier home is possible.
