About this Event
We need your help: 5,793 of us responded to the last consultation to voice concerns about the proposed open flame test, which can lead to the use of TCPP, a probable carcinogen, in upholstery foam, as well as toxic flame retardant chemicals in top fabrics. These have been linked to fertility problems and developmental issues in children.
The Government listened to these concerns and amended the proposal. It is now vital that we show support for these changes.
If we do not acknowledge and support the amendments, there is a real risk they could be reversed. Large industry bodies are continuing to lobby against the proposed changes, so public support remains incredibly important.
Who should care: Upholsterers, furniture makers and specifiers and ANYONE who has furniture in their home.
Consultation closes on 23rd June, so this is an urgent meeting to explain these proposed changes, answer questions to give you all the info you’ll need to respond.
Our expert speakers are:
Delyth Fetherston-Dilke, upholsterer designer and campaigner specialising in sustainable furniture, natural materials and healthy interiors and campaigning on behalf of upholsterers for a change to the Fire regulations which see upholstery fabrics and materials treated with potentially toxic flame retardant chemicals.
Mathew Freeman, BIID interior designer known for creating thoughtful interiors that balance wellbeing, functionality, and sustainability. Healthier material choices can shape more environmentally conscious living spaces.
Sonnaz Nooranvary, upholsterer, designer, and advocate for sustainable furniture restoration, well known for the BBC’s The Repair Shop. She actively campaigns for healthier, less toxic approaches to furniture manufacturing and upholstery.
Sharon O’Connor, founder of Vintique Upholstery, where she specialises in breathing new life into vintage and much loved furniture pieces. Her work celebrates traditional craftsmanship, reuse, and more sustainable approaches to interiors and upholstery.
Please join us if you can, choose either IN PERSON or ZOOM ticket when booking your free place. Be sure to submit your consultation responses before 23rd June.
