Join Steven Brill to discuss our information ecosystem: how false narratives take hold and spread, and how they threaten independent sources
About this Event

One Wednesday: November 18 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Den Coffeehouse

Price:

$30 per person

A complimentary beverage (glass of wine, beer or coffee) is included in the ticket price.

Join NewsGuard co-CEO and veteran journalist Steven Brill for a conversation on the state of the information ecosystem, including:

  • The alarming acceleration of the problem misinformation online, from healthcare hoaxes to Russian election interference
  • Who’s behind the crisis
  • Tools we can use to fight it
  • How quality journalism and those who rely on it can avoid being the victims of Silicon Valley AI

Misinformation and disinformation have reshaped how we understand the world — spreading through social media, cable news, and now, increasingly, AI. This salon takes a close look at how false narratives take hold, why they spread so effectively – and why reliable, independent sources are threatened more than ever at the same time that they matter more than ever.

Brill will also introduce NewsGuard AI, his company's chatbot (that is in a marketing partnership with Politics and Prose), which has been built to show that trustworthy, well-sourced answers are achievable and that quality journalists and their publishers should and can be paid for their content instead of having it pilfered by Silicon Valley AI.

He’ll close with a free-wheeling conversation with the audience about media navigating today's information landscape.

About the Speaker:

Steven Brill is the author of the best sellers The Teamsters, America’s Bitter Pill, and Tailspin, among other books. He has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, and other national publications. Brill is the cofounder and co-CEO of NewsGuard, which rates the reliability of news and information Web sites. He is also the founder of The American Lawyer, Brill’s Content magazine, Court TV, the CLEAR registered traveler program, the Yale Journalism Initiative, and NewsGuard AI. He lives near New York City.

REFUND POLICY: Please note that we can issue ticket refunds up until seven (7) days before the event.
