Priscilla and Apollos: Speaking God’s Word as Men and WomenPlenary Speaker: Tom Habib
At Pentecost, God’s Spirit is poured out upon both men and women, that both sons and daughters would prophesy (Acts 2:17). As Christians, who have received God’s Spirit, what does it look like for both men and women to speak God’s words today? How do we make sense of the rich variety of Spirit-given ministries exercised by women throughout the New Testament, while also honouring what the Bible says about teaching, preaching, and authority within the gathered church? How do our complementarian convictions of both order and interdependence shape our word-ministries? In short, what should Apollos and Priscilla be doing today?
In a confused and often heated debate over who can speak God’s word and when, it is vitally important that we gain clarity and confidence in what God is saying. These talks will be both theological and practical, biblically grounded and ministry minded.
Issues that we will explore: The importance of women in vocational and non-vocational word-ministries; the distinctiveness of preaching and its relation to authority; growing egalitarian critiques; and harmful distortions of biblical patriarchy.
Our goal is to sit under God’s word together, that we would together faithfully speak God’s words as men and women for the building of his church.
