Clouds and trees are common and important features in landscape painting, often occupying large areas of the composition. This in-person workshop explores how to render these elements with texture, individuality, and realism without making them appear contrived or overworked. Students will learn tactics for painting clouds and trees successfully through color, form, and technique.Topics include types of cloud masses and strategies for translating them using additive and reductive methods, as well as techniques for suggesting organic tree forms through brush movement, color, and detail to convey depth and distance. Instruction includes painting demonstrations and discussions of how master artists have represented these features in historic and contemporary works. Open to all levels. Demonstrations will be conducted in watercolor, but the techniques are applicable to painters working in any medium.
