They say not to work with kids or animals in pictures. Christophers Guest’s company of actors didn’t seem to be intimidated by their doggy companions. In fact, they seemed to be able to be the kids they were meant to avoid, too. The commitment to the bit is what these performers do best. BEST IN SHOW is the pinnacle of improv. Most of the cast, having worked with each other in some way or another for decades at this stage, showed what it means to trust and rely on the person you’re collaborating with. Because of that trust and talent, they can take risks that gift us hilarity and heart meant to be experienced as a group.
Not to mention, at the time I booked this screening, I didn’t know we would lose the legend Catherine O’Hara. Let’s gather, laugh, and watch how she did what she did really, really well! (VANYA GARRAWAY)
