Pages Unmasked — Creative Journaling Workshop with Erratic AllyMental Health Month | Expression, reflection and the things we carry
This workshop will follow on from the Journaling Café held as part of the Creative Space Community Outreach R U OK? event held in September.
It will also loosely connect with the themes explored through the Bloodlines & Brushstrokes: UNMASKED Exhibition, particularly the idea that there are parts of ourselves we show openly and parts we may keep underneath.
Workshop Overview
Participants will create and personalise journal pages using writing, drawing, collage, colour and mixed-media techniques.
The workshop will be guided through a series of optional prompts rather than requiring participants to create a traditional written journal.
Participants can respond through words, images, patterns, colour or simply experimentation.
Prompts will be optional and participants will be encouraged to interpret them however they wish.
The workshop aims to provide a low-pressure way for participants to explore:
• creativity as a form of expression
• self-reflection
• identity
• emotions and experiences
• personal strengths
• things that help them feel grounded or connected
The emphasis will remain on creative exploration rather than therapy or disclosure.
Materials supplied - feel free to bring a few items if you like though!
Each participant will leave with a personalised journal and several completed or started pages that they can continue using independently.
Workshops wrap up around 12pm ish with the option to keep creating or stay on for social time or other activities until 2pm.
Workshop Approach
Across all three workshops, the focus will be on participation rather than artistic ability.
Activities can be adapted for different levels of confidence, concentration, fine-motor ability and creative experience.
Participants will always have the option to:
• follow the suggested activity
• simplify the activity
• create something different using the available materials
• participate without discussing the meaning behind their work.
The intention is to create workshops that feel welcoming, practical and creative while still allowing space for reflection and connection.
