At the last Cambridge City Council meeting, the chambers were standing room only as residents spoke out in overwhelming opposition to the city's newly installed Flock automated license plate reader cameras. Out of roughly 15 citizens who addressed council, only one person spoke in favor of the system.Yet, instead of answering our serious constitutional and privacy questions or acting on our call for a moratorium, our elected officials offered no plan and simply told residents to chat with the police chief after the meeting. That is not enough.
Our work has just begun. We need to fill the room again on Monday, September 28, to show City Council that our community expects real accountability, genuine transparency, and an immediate operational moratorium on mass surveillance infrastructure.
Why Attend? Let our elected leaders see that we are paying attention for the long haul. We want the system unplugged - not hidden behind Flock talking points.
