Konzert & Performance
p u n c t u m / blinds #9
blinds #9 At Haus Wittgenstein, starts with fragile soundscapes – sounds that, especially with your eyes closed, may leave you wondering whether you actually heard something or whether it was merely a random noise. The pieces in the first half of the concert will be performed throughout the space, allowing different sound sources to be heard from various directions.
In the second half of the concert, the audience will remove their blindfolds to the sound of a dove. This will introduce a piece by Carola Bauckholt, Coo-Cooooo-Coo? Where, where? (2024), accompanied by animated projections. We will then continue the evening with further films by members of Filmkoop Wien, before concluding the programme with a final performance by me, Nava Hemyari.
For those who are not yet familiar with punctum, the audience can look forward to an evening in which music, film and space enter into dialogue with one another, continually challenging and reshaping the ways we listen and see.
punctum collective is an international contemporary music ensemble based in Vienna. Bringing together acoustic, electroacoustic, live electronic, and performative practices, punctum creates concert experiences that invite curiosity, foster deep listening, and resonate on both emotional and intellectual levels. punctum’s repertoire spans music of the 20th-21st centuries alongside works commissioned for the ensemble by composers including Katharina Klement, Daniela Terranova, Zach Thomas, Parsa Zandi, and Shayan Gorzin.
As a Vienna-based cultural association (Verein), punctum develops projects at the intersection of contemporary music, sound art, and transmedia practices. Its mission is to create thoughtfully curated experiences that bring together music with audiovisual art, performance, installation, free improvisation, and site-responsive formats, fostering new ways of listening and engaging with sound.
Their performance at BKI Haus Wittgenstein will present music compositions by Milena Georgieva, Yassen Vodenitcharov, Carola Bauckholt, Evgeny Ignashev, Karlheinz Essl, Matthias Kranebitter and Nava Hemyari
A highlight of the concert is the premiere of the latest work by Bulgarian composer Milena Georgieva.
Milena Georgieva is a composer and transdisciplinary artist, born in Bulgaria and based in Vienna. In her compositions and live performances, she seeks a fluid, unbound sense of music and listening. Her approach is strongly influenced by her background in landscape design - she explores sound as an unfolding, organic dramaturgical space. Through music and sound, she sees the possibility to grow unexpected relationships and enter impossible places - utopias. Symbiosis — understood as both emergence and shared experience — lies at the core of her current compositional and collaborative practice. She develops this within her work with choirs and ensembles combining improvisation and score. Further key elements in her approach to sound are noise, texture, and grip as auditory sensations of materiality, alongside process- and space-activating music aspects like acoustic dimensionality, phasing, resonance-dissonance and polytemporality. Milena performs also under the moniker Yuzu and with the ensemble brrrds+y. Her works have been presented at Tanzquartier Wien, Kunsthaus Zürich, Wien Modern, Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab, Kunsthalle Wien, Goethe-Institut Bulgaria, Wiener Festwochen, Elevate Festival, Unsafe+Sounds, Sonic Territories among others.
