In celebration of all things mountainous and bicyclous, and the good old 90s can-do attitude, embodied in the late ‘crazy Swede’ Goran Kropp, who in 1996 rode his bicycle from Sweden to Everest base camp, summited Everest solo without supplemental oxygen, and then rode home, join your fellow Tassie froth dogs on the OutCrop Kropp CampOut 2027. In 2026 we were thwarted by the year's most iciest storm and beat a retreat to the safe bosom of a nearby tavern. All i know about 2027 is that we will again manifest the spirit of the crazy Swede.
We will start with a day's journey by bicycle from Hobart to the Hartz trailhead, then we will enthusiastically summit by foot at around sunset, before returning to camp at Arve River via bicycle for treats and riddles, then on Sunday we will ride home to the big smoke.
A two-day festival of the endurance of the human spirit and Mother Nature and Tassie’s ragamuffin frother community.
The more slap-dash the better. Extra points for vintage outdoor wear and under preparation. Open invite to the ‘good eggs’ among us. It’s a self-supported challenge, so organise your snacks, spares, etc.
Probably wind up at the pub afterwards, of course.
Roll out from Hobart Linear Park at 6am sharp!
Route to follow, but anticipate 100km riding days x2, and 2500m climbing. Plus, a 2-3 hr trek.
This is a community event, which means it is organised and undertaken based on honest community values like good faith, respectful relationships, and understanding. If you undertake this route there are risks involved (including potential medical and emergency risks) and you accept responsibility for them. You’re primarily responsible for your own safety and those you’re with.
With that said, should be good!
