Join Australian author Paul Rushworth-Brown LIVE for a special online conversation exploring the remarkable true family journey that inspired Outback Odyssey.
The story began in the 1950s when 17-year-old Yorkshire migrant Jimmy Brown travelled to Australia under the Big Brother Movement. His experiences in a new country — from rural life and remote sheep stations to the people who challenged his understanding of Australia — would decades later help inspire Outback Odyssey.
Paul will take you behind the fiction to discuss the history, characters and real events that shaped the story, including post-war migration, the Australian outback, identity, belonging, First Nations knowledge and the experiences that transform Jimmy's view of his adopted country.
The conversation will conclude with a LIVE audience Q&A, giving readers the opportunity to ask Paul about the novel, Australian history, historical fiction, the real Jimmy Brown and the journey from family story to published book.
