About this Event
Registration is free and open to the public at afsp.org/dfw
The Out of the Darkness Walk is AFSP's signature community event, held in hundreds of cities across the country each year. Families, friends, coworkers, veterans, first responders, students, and neighbors walk to raise awareness, honor loved ones lost to suicide, support those who struggle, and raise funds for research, education, advocacy, and programs for people affected by suicide. Many walkers wear honor beads, with each color representing a personal connection to the cause.
Now the second largest suicide prevention walk in the country by number of walkers, the DFW Metro Walk is expected to bring together nearly 4,000 participants this year, with a community fundraising goal of $500,000.
Funds raised through the walk support AFSP's mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. Nationally, AFSP invests $35 million into research, education, awareness, and advocacy. The North Texas chapter serves 61 counties with prevention education, support programs for suicide loss survivors, and community events like the DFW Metro Walk.
If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or text TALK to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line.
