Your story is part of Our Town.
Every person has stories to tell, and together, those stories help tell the story of our community.
Our Town: Stories from Wasaga Beach is a community podcast project from Wasaga Beach Public Library that invites older adults to share their memories, experiences, perspectives and connections to Wasaga Beach while learning new storytelling and podcasting skills.
Have a story in mind? Great. Not sure what your story is yet? That's okay too!
This hands-on workshop will help you develop an idea, think about how to tell it through audio, and learn how to use the library's portable podcasting equipment to bring it to life.
Each participant will work toward creating one short podcast episode to become part of Our Town: Stories from Wasaga Beach.
No storytelling, podcasting or technical experience is required. Beginners are welcome!
What You'll Learn
During the workshop, you'll:
• Explore what makes an engaging audio story
• Learn how to turn an idea, memory or experience into a short podcast episode
• Get tips for storytelling, conversations and interviews
• Learn podcasting and audio-recording basics
• Get hands-on experience with the library's podcasting kits
• Learn how to set up and use the microphones and recording equipment
• Practice capturing clear, quality audio
• Learn what happens next as you work toward creating your own Our Town story
After completing the workshop and learning how to properly use the equipment, participants will be eligible to borrow an Our Town podcasting kit from Wasaga Beach Public Library to record their story.
Take the equipment where your story happens. Sit down with a friend or family member, visit a meaningful location, talk with someone in the community, or find a quiet place to tell the story yourself.
We'll give you the tools and show you how to use them. You bring the story. No previous podcasting or audio-recording experience is required.
Additional information about borrowing the kits and completing your Our Town story will be provided during the workshop.
