About this Event
This event brings together community members, youth, researchers, and local organizations to share knowledge, experiences, and pathways toward healing and prevention.
Hosted by the University of Washington’s Center for Firearm Injury Prevention and community partners, the Gun Violence in African Communities (GVAC) team will share key findings from their recent research, including surveys of over 200 youth and focus groups with Congolese, Somali, and Ethiopian community members. These insights will help ground our discussion in the lived realities of our communities.
The event will include:
- Community Resource Fair: Local organizations will be present to share services, programs, and support available to families and youth
- Youth Panel: Young people from African communities will share their perspectives, experiences, and ideas for change
- Facilitated Small-Group Discussions: Attendees will engage in guided conversations to identify community-driven solutions and next steps
This forum is a space to listen, learn, and build together—centering the voices and strengths of African communities while working toward safer, healthier futures.
We encourage parents, youth and community members to join.
