ArtWalk at René Wiley Gallery is for daughter Rachel Wiley-Janota’s solo exhibition, “Our Backyard,” opens Saturday, November 14, 2026 from 6-9pm. Preview Night is Friday, November 13, 2026 from 6-8pm.Blending coastal wildlife with a nostalgic nod to mid-century Americana, “Our Backyard” invites viewers to rediscover the beauty in the everyday, past and present. Inspired by the birds that share our shoreline and the places that shape our memories, this collection finds beauty in the wonderfully ordinary. There’s poetry in watching a heron fish on the water’s edge, nostalgia in a found motel postcard, and something timeless about a folding lawn chair waiting in the afternoon sun.
Wiley-Janota’s paintings are always a love letter to Galveston: its historic shores, its weathered corners, and its unmistakable Gulf Coast spirit. “Our Backyard,” is a reminder that the spirit of the past can remain, and that the most meaningful places aren’t always exotic or far away, but sometimes the places closest to home are the ones we treasure most, found right in our own backyards.
