Other Voices Derry will open with an unmissable concert at Derry's Guildhall on Thursday 24 September with Martin Hayes and Brian Donnellan.

Praised by the Irish Times as a musician with an “insatiable appetite for adventure”, Martin Hayes is regarded as one of the most significant talents to emerge in the world of Irish traditional music. He is the founder of the musical supergroup The Gloaming, The Common Ground Ensemble, and the Martin Hayes Quartet.
He is the artistic director of Masters of Tradition, an annual festival in Cork, Ireland, and a co-curator for the Marble Sessions at the Kilkenny Arts Festival, Ireland. He has drawn inspiration from many musical genres, but remains grounded in the music he grew up with in East County Clare. Martin Hayes' soulful interpretations of traditional Irish music are recognized the world over for their exquisite musicality and irresistible rhythm. His unique sound, his mastery of his chosen instrument – the violin – his acknowledgement of the past and his shaping of the future of the music, combine to create a formidable artistic intelligence.Martin Hayes will share the stage at The Guildhall with Brian Donnellan, a concertina and bouzouki player from Co. Clare.
Together with Brian, Martin Hayes develops music shaped by awareness, breath, and nuance. Melodies stretch and hover before regaining the danced momentum, exhibiting an oral tradition both deeply rooted and fully contemporary.
