Join local author and playwright Elaine Pritchard for a fascinating Saturday morning talk celebrating two of Burton’s most creative and innovative entrepreneurs: George Orton and Charles Spooner.Set inside the historic Langan’s Tea Rooms, the location offers a perfect view of The Ritz across the way—a state-of-the-art, lavishly decorated 1930s cinema originally built and opened by a company founded by Orton and Spooner.
Starting out in the late Victorian era, Orton and Spooner put Burton on the global map for visionary fairground rides, ornate showfronts, and luxurious living wagons.
2027 marks 50 years since George Orton, Sons & Spooner closed its doors on Victoria Crescent for the last time.
Few know the full, astonishing story—a saga involving lions, tigers, and bears, the Boer War, the D-Day landings and High Street cinemas!
Your ticket price will include a tasty hot breakfast roll and a drink.
Also, £5 for every ticket bought will be donated by Elaine to Burton & District Mind who receive all the profits from Elaine's 2022 book about Orton & Spooner, called Labour of Love.
