A special exhibition of large original vintage oil paintings with the artist Rita CorriganAward-winning artist elder Rita Corrigan has been painting since her childhood in the 1940s when she was captivated by dogs. She finds inspiration in the natural world, especially in the layering of color and shadow in the landscape. She holds an MA degree in Creative Photography and Painting from the State University of Iowa and an undergraduate degree in Art, English, and Education from the College of St Benedict. For 80 years, Rita has created art using many materials and forms including oil, pastel, watercolor and most recently acrylic. Her muse has been northern Minnesota along Lake Superior for years as well as locations from her travels to Iceland, Croatia, Italy, Belize and camper travel across the States. She has exhibited extensively in the upper Midwest and has works in collections throughout the US and Europe.
As a graduate student and then a young mother to five in the 1960s and 70s, Rita created a fantastic body of work with oil paint. These images are largely influenced by the Mid-Century Modern era in which they were painted but also portray unique artistic sensibilities from Rita’s own experiences and brilliance. She admired many painters, including Feininger. Her carpenter father, Richard Beyer crafted the frames for many of her paintings.
