About this Event
You can take a bearing. Now learn to plan a route and trust it.
Level 2 picks up where Intro to Orienteering and Map Reading leaves off. You spend the morning sharpening your navigation at Bronte Creek Provincial Park, then put it to work on a two-hour guided hike through the park.
What you will learn
- Triangulation: take bearings to two known landmarks and find where you are on the map.
- Route planning: it is not always A to B. Plan around hills and use bridges and trails.
- Attack points: navigate to a distinct feature near your destination, then close in carefully.
- Catching features: know when you have gone too far.
- Aiming off: bear slightly off target toward a trail or creek, so you know which way to turn.
- Pace counting: check your distance as you travel.
