SCENES FROM UP NORTH will feature a premier work titled Upper Peninsula Orchestra Suite, arranged by Dr. Barbara Rhyneer, faculty at NMU.
Dr. Rhyneer wrote this suite in seven movements, one for each strings group in the Upper Peninsula. Sault Sainte Marie will be featured as the first movement, Eastern Sunrise. Unique to this movement is that Rhyneer used a song, Ceremony, written by local Dr. Martin Reinhardt (member of the Sault Sainte Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians) which includes Native American flute, drum, and voice.
Both Dr. Rhyneer and Dr. Reinhardt will be joining us for the November performance of the Suite. Concluding the concert will be a piece about the Upper Peninsula written by her husband, Tim DeMarte, arranged by Dr. Rhyneer for choir and orchestra titled Cloverland.
